Through drawing and painting I re-create historical, figurative work through an illustrative perspective. Detailing aspects of the figure by harnessing abstraction and detail within printing, painting, and drawing. Classical sculpture and Renaissance sketches form the basis of my inspiration. I find the subtilties of the carvings and fine marks encapsulating.  I develop close cropped viewpoints of interesting segments. Poetry, Dante’s Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, has informed my narrative. This three-part poem explores the concepts of Hell, Purgatory and Paradise, conjuring up many evocative images through the characterisation of Dante, Beatrice (his lost love) and Virgil his guide.
